Beautiful Antique Dresser & Swing Mirror

I picked up this piece from a nice gentleman who lived nearby. Having recently moved to Orangeville, Ontario, we haven’t really had the chance to explore the area as much as we would have liked. He lived about 5 minutes away. We arrived at his house and were taken aback by the breath taking view from the top of the hill where his house stood. We could see the fall colours as far as the eye could see.

Jim was his name and we took a liking to him immediately. He told us the story behind the dresser which once belonged in his son’s room.  His wife didn’t want to part with it but the son had moved out and the family had no use for the dresser anymore. I fell in love with it immediately. It needed a lot of work. Although interesting, the Zebrawood wasn’t my cup of tea and I had just the right idea in mind to give this lovely piece a new life.

Dresser - before

Hubby took all the handles and knobs off, dismounted the mirror and prepped the piece for painting. For this dresser, I chose the Paris Grey ASCP. I applied 2 coats and once dry, I softly distressed the piece and added a dark and clear soft wax paying special attention to the details on the mirror piece.

Adding depth to the beautiful wooden feature added the extra accent the dresser needed. I finished by adding new knobs on the little pocket drawers.

The result was astounding!! My waxing technique feels like its getting better and better with every piece I finish.
